Eric came to the Saints at the end of a glorious Widnesian career. A natural footballer and blessed with pace he was one of the best support players of that era.
He played 13 matches at stand off for the Saints between March and April 1986. Eric helped guide the club to victories in the first twelve fixtures. Ironically his only try for the club came in the unlucky thirteenth match against Leeds when the Saints were bundled out of the Premiership competition at the first hurdle.
Eric returned to the club in 1995 when he took over the coaching reins at the club. His attacking philosophy suited the Saints and the supporters were treated to some excellent rugby that season. With the onslaught of the Super League era and the appointment of Shaun McRae as coach, Eric was redeployed within the club to become Football Manager.
