Michael O Connor was signed for the Australian close season bewteen October 1988 and February 1989. In that period he played mostly in the centre and scored seven tries and kicked seven goals. In the match against Halifax he scored two tries and kicked six goals and scored a brace of tries against Hull KR.
Michael was a State of Origin player for New South Wales and a dual code international back in Australia and a noted points scorer for the Manly club. He returned to St Helens to play in the 1989 Challenge Cup Final against Wigan at Wembley. Unfortunately, the Saints were well beaten that day by an Ellery Hanley inspired Wigan side.
