Biography of Mark Bourneville

HERITAGE NO : 1023
Mark Bourneville by Alex Service

Originally from the Mount Albert club in Auckland, Mark was a short term signing by the Saints and made two full appearances, with three as substitute. He made his debut against Warrington on 28th February 1990 which was perhaps one of the shortest and most dramatic of them all. The match was abandoned shortly after kick off when part of the Main Stand sheeting blew down onto the pitch, narrowly missing Des Drummond, the Warrington winger. Mark played his final match against Leeds at Headingley, a 50-14 thrashing for the Saints on the day. A strong running winger, Mark was a Kiwi tourist in 1985 but did not play Test Match football. He ended up settling in France and actually played for his adopted country against New Zealand in a Test Match in the early 1990s, breaking his arm during the match, which put his playing career in jeopardy. The man who was nicknamed Horse is believed to be back in New Zealand and working as a lifeguard.
