Biography of Thomas Farnall

HERITAGE NO : 359
This local lad played three matches for the Saints in April 1928. His debut was against tough local rivals Wigan Highfield, when Tom was in the back row with Bill Clarey and Harry Turner. Saints lost 15-20 but there was winning pay for Tom in his second appearance. The 30-10 success against Hunslet saw wing sensation Alf Ellaby zoom in for four tries. His final game with the seniors was at the Athletic Grounds, against Rochdale Hornets, when Tom was on the left wing, partnered by famous Welsh centre George Lewis. Saints lost 5-15, but the fact that Thomas was on the wing certainly indicates that he had great mobility.

In 1911 he was living at 36 Duncan Street, St Helens, although when he signed for the Saints, he was living in Peter Street. By 1939 Thomas had moved to Grange Park Road, St Helens and was working at BICC Cable Works in Prescot. His son, Ray, also played for the Saints at full-back in the early 1950s. Thomas died in March 1963, aged 59 and his death was registered in Prescot.
