Biography of Wilf Fields |
---|
HERITAGE NO : 634 Wilfred Fields, more often known as Wilf, played his only game for the first team in the league home defeat to Workington Town by 20 points to 5 on December 22nd, 1945. He played at full back in this match. Beforehand, he had impressed in an A Team game against Widnes when he kicked three goals. He had to wait nearly four months for Leigh's next game, kicking one goal in an 18-8 Challenge Cup tie defeat at Hunslet, the club's last game before closing down for the duration of the war. Wilf also made five appearances for Broughton Rangers in the 1941-42 season, kicking three goals. In 1939 he was employed as a bricklayer and he was living in Crawford Road, Wigan. He died in Wigan in August 1986, aged 66. Alex Service/Mike Latham |
