Biography of James Forber

HERITAGE NO : 473
James Forber played his only game for the first team in the narrow league defeat to Liverpool Stanley by 9 points to 7. He played on the left wing outside centre Jack Bradbury in this match. Born in Sunbury Street, Thatto Heath, he was a noted sprinter at Ruskin Drive in the summer months and was extremely difficult to catch in full flight.

James made 11 appearances for the Recs and could play on either flank with confidence. His centre partners at City Road included another Saints` `great` Alf Frodsham, for a spell. His last game for Recs was at Streatham and Mitcham in November 1935 and he was eventually struck off their register on 18th February 1937.

James is the uncle of former Recs and Liverpool City stalwart Ernie Forber and Great Uncle to Paul and Gary Forber, fellow Thatto Heathans who all achieved so much in the game at various times. He worked as a Haulage Hand in a Coal Mine. James was living in Sunbury Street, St Helens in March 1988. He died in St Helens in March 1988, aged 70.
