Biography of James Harrison

HERITAGE NO : 319
James Harrison by Alex Service and Dave Dooley

James Harrison signed for the Saints on 24th November 1923 and he was soon pressed into First Team action, making his debut at Salford on 1st December in the full back position. James was signed from the Ravenhead Colliery team and he also turned out for the Golden Lion Club. Known as Plonker to his playing colleagues he kept his place for a further two matches, his last appearance for the club coming on 8th December in the 0-18 defeat at Widnes. Jas lived in Campbell Street and was pushed into action presumably as a result of injury to the likes of Charlie Crooks and Walter Wright, who occupied the full-back role at the time. We do not have any other information about this player, except for the fact that he was struck off the Saints register on 7th November 1925. Outside rugby James was a Light Labourer who was living in Elliot Street, St Helens in 1939. He died in St Helens in December 1974, aged 76.
