 HERITAGE NO : 160 Ernest Lewis played four matches for the Saints at the end of 1908 and beginning of 1909. Signed from the fledgling Liverpool City club, he played 3 matches in the forwards and once in the backs. Unfortunately, Lewis failed to draw winning pay in these four games. Despite collecting little money for his efforts on the rugby field, Ernest would reap in the rewards later in life. He was living in Cranbourne Avenue, Birkenhead and working as a Shipping Clerk. By 1939 he had relocated to Ludlow Road, Knighton and was listed as a Corn Merchant. Ernest died in Radnorshire, Wales in 1969 aged 88. Dave Dooley |
