Tony Puletua joined Saints with a host of first grade experience and a big game performance to boot. The massive strong running forward broke defences with ease and had a tough, no nonsense tackling game that was the envy of the rest of Super League. Tony continued the trend of Saints signing only the best type of players with the right attitude on and off the field. He soon demonstrated in his early matches that he was committed to the cause and fitted in to the Saints setup with the minimum of fuss.

Tony made more than 190 appearances for Penrith, has represented his country of origin New Zealand on numerous occasions and with his brother Frank was a part of the Panthers successful grand final team in 2003. Tall and athletic, surprisingly fast for such a big man and possessing a trademark big handed offload, Tony was soon setting up tries for his teammates as the Saints stormed through the 2009 season. He dazzled all in the Castleford sunshine on the 19th of April 2009 when he powered in for four tries as the Saints demolished the Tigers by 68 points to 22. That signalled 10 tries for the season in just 11 games.

The 2009 season proved to be a roller coaster season for the Saints. The ride however, ultimately ended in disappointment as the Saints trophy cabinet was laid bare for the first time since the 2003 campaign. Some sparkling performances were punctuated with below par matches as the club shaped a new team for the future and youth was given its head. Tony ended the season with a stunning 14 tries return to mark a highly creditable first season at Knowsley Road.

The 2010 season finished with an empty trophy cabinet at the Saints but the side creditably made it to the Challenge Cup Semi Final and a fifth successive Grand Final. Tony remained a bedrock of the saints pack.

Never the less the players responded magnificently by reaching an eleventh consecutive Challenge Cup Semi Final and a record breaking sixth successive Grand Final. However, a sour taste of disappointment featured as the Saints lost to Wigan in the Challenge Cup and Leeds came back strongly in the last twenty minutes of the Grand Final to dampen the spirits. The season was marked by the emergence of young players who cemented their positions in the first team and demanded their inclusion in the big games. As a senior player and greatly respected forward, Tony helped guide the youngsters as they marched bravely towards the Grand Final. He finished the season having accrued 34 tries from just 78 matches in the red vee, an absolutely monumental effort. He had continued his trademark bullocking runs, often carrying several opponents on his back, and magical offloads.

His final seasons at Langtree Park saw Tony move into the front row. At the conclusion of the 2013 season Tony moved to the Salford Red Devils to aid their resurgence in the game.
