Biography of Johnny Fox

HERITAGE NO : 618
John Henry Fox by SHS

Another case of the club desperately trying to keep the team going during the war years by using 'loan' players. Fox, the St. Helens Reporter tells us, was a second-row forward and on the books of Castleford.

Johnny played 20 matches for Castleford from 1939 to 1947 scoring one try in the process.

His brother, Harold, with the splendid nickname Bleb, also played for Leeds and Castleford in the same era.

The second rower endured a fierce blizzard in this tough encounter! The conditions resulted in a low scoring affair which saw the Saints go down by 8 points to 2.

Johnny died in Castleford, Yorkshire in March 1995, aged 79. Thanks to the granddaughter of Johnny, Adele, for her contribution to this biography and the splendid photo of Johnny.
