 HERITAGE NO : 1170 Gareth made his debut against Warrington in February 2008. He was signed from Pilkington Recs after he had captained England at under 15s and 16s level. He was a big, strong running prop forward who developed his game in 2008 and 2009 by coming on as substitute in several first team games for the Saints. He made his first start for the first team in the away fixture against Castleford in April 2008. In the same month he also started in the front row in the 56 points to nil demolition of London Skolars in the Challenge Cup. The 2009 season proved to be a roller coaster season for the Saints. The ride however, ultimately ended in disappointment as the Saints trophy cabinet was laid bare for the first time since the 2003 campaign. Some sparkling performances were punctuated with below par matches as the club shaped a new team for the future and youth was given its head.
