One of an exciting breed of Young Guns to make an impression at Knowsley Road in the mid 1990s, Danny Arnold made the right wing position his own during the first Super League campaign and scored tries seemingly for fun. His total of 25 was eclipsed in Super League terms only by Paul Newlove and Jason Robinson a fantastic achievement for the rookie threequarter. The highlight of the 1996 campaign however for Danny was a scintillating hat-trick against Wigan at Knowsley Road, when he blew kisses to the Sky camera at one stage, such was his satisfaction at helping to beat the Old Enemy by 41-26 and establish his teams credentials as major championship contenders. Apparently, there is a tale to tell. According to Danny, as a confident 15 year old, he told his Nan he would play for Saints one day and score three tries against Wigan. His Nan told him that if he ever did, he should blow her a kiss. So that is how it all came about!

Danny also scored four touchdowns in the opening fixture away at Workington in 1996 and scored tries in every one of Saints first five matches in the European Super League, together with a brace in the 40-32 success over Bradford Bulls in the Challenge Cup final at Wembley. He switched to the left wing later on in the campaign, but never quite maintained his blazing start.

In 1997 he made 28 appearances for the First team a total matched only by fellow threequarter Anthony Sullivan. Danny scored 15 tries from both the right wing and later in the season from full-back, when he deputised for the injured Steve Prescott. He made a second appearance at Wembley in 1997 against Bradford Bulls but did not make the scoresheet on this occasion. A tall, rangy player, with great pace and the ability to make try-scoring look simple when on top form, Danny moved to Huddersfield Giants for the 1998 campaign and had further spells with Castleford and Salford in the European Super League. He will always be remembered for his flurry of touchdowns early in 1996 however, when the foundations of Saints future Super League success were well and truly laid.
