Keith Ashcroft played against the visiting Australians in 1963-64 and he was a strong-running and hard-tackling second row forward at St.Helens. Apparently, he had originally signed for the club as a centre threequarter. Later in his career, he graduated to open-side prop forward and served a number of clubs, including Warrington, Wigan, Bradford Northern, Swinton and Oldham, the latter by the 1972-73 season. He played for Wigan in the 1970 Challenge Cup Final and had a try controversially disallowed. He later was a committee me,ver on the Wigan Past Players Association.

Keith sadly passed away in his hometown in October 2012 aged 72.
