 HERITAGE NO : 1028 Paul Bishop by Alex Service A rare occurence of both father and son playing for Saints in the same position! Paul, like his father Tommy, wore the scrum-half jersey with distinction for the club. Signed after a productive spell at the Warrington club, Paul was a tough, nuggety number seven, very much a chip off the old block, who would irritate opponents with his supreme skill and aggressive demeanour! He could dominate with his kicking game and was very much the boss around the scrum base. He played for the Saints when Wigan were the dominant force in the game and as a result, major honours largely eluded him. Paul mirrored his father by playing for the Saints against Wigan at Wembley, in 1991. Unfortunately, luck was against the Saints on this occasion and Wigan won a close encounter, but he did pick up a Lancashire Cup winners medal against Rochdale Hornets in 1991-92. Paul went on to play for Halifax after leaving St.Helens but he will be remembered with some affection by those who watched him from the terraces at Knowsley Road. | ||||
