A big, rangy second row forward, signed from Leigh, Simon played for the Saints during the transition era from winter to summer rugby. He made his debut against newly-promoted Doncaster in the first match of the 1994-95 campaign, which the Saints lost. Simon was just as effective coming off the bench as an impact player and we shall never forget his contribution during the 1996 Challenge Cup final when he poached a try at such a crucial time in the match. Despite taking the early initiative, the Saints were staring defeat in the face until Bobbie Goulding sent up a series of bombs to unsettle the Bradford Bulls defence. Simon got on the end of one of these towering kicks and touched down. It was on the hour and brought the Saints back level again at 22-22. Goulding kicked the goal and Saints never lost the initiative after that, in what was described as the mother of all come backs.

Simon stayed at Knowsley Road until the end of the 1997 season. His last match was against Brisbane Broncos in the expanded World Club Challenge competition of the time. He then signed for Hull Sharks, together with Stephen Prescott and Alan Hunte. Simon played over 20 matches in Super League for the Sharks before leaving at the end of 1999. It is believed that he went into Further Education in a college in the Humberside area, but we would welcome any further information as to his post-rugby career.
