Biography of Tom Briers



HERITAGE NO : 83
The brother of Billy and Ben, Tom `Wack` Briers played mostly in the forwards at a time when the battle in the scrums and loose play was ferocious. He played a total of 33 matches for the club around the turn of the century. Tom gained his strength from being a miner.

Emanating from Thatto Heath he was registered in the 1911 Census as living in Bewsey Street, Thatto Heath with his wife and brother Billy. In 1921 Tom was still living in Owen Street, Thatto Heath, St. Helens with his wife Margaret, who hailed from St Helens, son James , daughters Alice and Margaret along with brother and Saints’ legend Billy. He was a Coal Miner in the Sutton Heath and Lea Green Colliery.He died in St.Helens in January 1948 aged 52.
