Darren came to the Saints for the commencement of the 2002 campaign. He soon proved to be a rugged customer with barnstorming runs and the ability to offload as he was being tackled. Darren played in 27 matches in his first season despite carrying a leg injury throughout the campaign. At the start of the 2003 season Darren reported in with a clean bill of health and led the pack brilliantly in the first encounters earning much praise from his coach, fellow players and the supporters. His direct straight running proved vital in providing a `go forward` platform for Saints` classy backs.

Darren was born on the 9th.of October 1969 in Orange, New South Wales, Australia. He became a legendary member of the Canterbury Bulldogs pack renowned as the toughest set of six in the Australian competition. In 170 matches for the Bulldogs Darren scored 10 tries. His fine form led to five caps for Australia from 1998-1999. In the 2001 campaign for the Sydney Bulldogs Darren played 23 times and was rated as the form front rower in the competition.

He made his debut for the Saints in horrendous weather conditions as Saints defeated Oldham by 40 points to 6 in a far from sunny Stalybridge. His first try for the Club came on the 1st. of June, 2002 at the Willows when Saints defeated Salford by 28 points to 24. His other touchdown in his first season was in the 34 points to 26 home defeat of Bradford Bulls which had a great bearing on Saints finishing top of the league. His reward was a Grand Final winners ring as Saints defeated Bradford Bulls in one of the greatest finales to any Rugby League match ever played.

In the 2003 season Darren was on fire. A supreme offload helped Paul Sculthorpe score a sensational try in the home league thrashing of Castleford. The Willows proved a happy hunting ground for Darren as he scored a try in the 54 points to six demolition of Salford in the Quarter Final of the Challenge Cup on the 16th. of March.

Darren continued in great form and it seemed that Saints would come out on top if Darren was leading from the front. He was instrumental in the mid season recovery that resulted in Saints winning 8 successive matches to climb the league ladder into fourth position. However, a clash of heads just 50 seconds into the home game against Hull on the 9th. of August, 2003 resulted in a season and career ending facial injury. It was a particularly sad way to end a great career as the Saints form seemed to indicate another Grand Final was there for the taking. A week later when the news had filtered through to the fans, Darren received a thunderous reception before the Saints` home league game against Castleford. In the 2003 season Darren played 24 matches and scored two tries. In his two seasons at the Saints Darren Britt played in 51 matches scoring four tries and leading the pack as Saints rolled over team after team in their golden Super League era.
