Biography of George Clifton |
---|
HERITAGE NO : 739 George Clifton by Alex Service George Clifton was a centre for the Vickers Rugby Union Club in Barrow who signed on for the Saints after four trial matches in the A Team under the name of Harker. He showed impressive form in those matches and was also being chased by Barrow, Oldham and Keighley at the time. He was six feet tall and weighed in at 12 stones 4 lbs. The Vickers club had previously been responsible for producing another great rugby league player, Phil Jackson, who played for his home-town team and became a Great Britain tourist. Unfortunately, things did not work out for George at Knowsley Road, despite further impressive performances in the A team and it is presumed that he went back to Barrow. |
