 HERITAGE NO : 1065 Gareth Cunningham by SHS Thatto Heath-born Gareth was a pupil at Broadway High School where he achieved England Under 16s Schoolboy honours at rugby league. There is definitely rugby in the genes, as his father is Eddie Cunningham, who found fame with Saints and Widnes. Gareth signed for his home-town team and made one start and one substitute appearance for the First Team. Naturally strong and mobile, his debut came in a heavy defeat against Wigan on Boxing Day 1995. He came on as a substitute one week later in the home league defeat against Leeds. Unfortunately First Team opportunities were limited for Gareth at Knowsley Road and he later transferred to play for local rivals Widnes. He went on to play rugby union for local clubs for a spell. |
