 HERITAGE NO : 489 Frrederick Ellaby by SHS With a surname like that he must be good! He was no relation to the great Alf as far as we know. Frank Ellaby came from the Salford area. He had come to terms with the St.Helens club by early December 1938 and partnered Jack Fearnley in his early matches as a Saint. Although he played in the back row, he was a strong man who could turn out in the front row if required. He made 9 appearances for the club during the rest of the season, but did not figure in the 1939-40 campaign. In 1921 Fred was living in Renshaw Street, Patricroft, Lancashire. He lived with his father Fred, mother Mary and sister Alice. Fred’s father worked as a Coal Miner in the local colliery in Pendlebury. Fred died in Salford in February 1995, aged 84.
