 HERITAGE NO : 308 Henry Fisher by Alex Service In the search to strengthen the forwards during the 1922-23 season, the Saints Committee signed Henry Fisher from Wigan. He was born in Wigan although did not seem to have played in the First Team at Central Park. Henry was 25 years of age when he signed 13 stone 3 lbs in weight and six feet in height. His debut was hardly encouraging, as the team lost ignominiously at Featherstone. 'Defeated and disgraced,' was the headline in the St.Helens Newspaper. However, the Saints won their next two matches at home, including the scalp of league leaders Swinton. 'Saints glorious achievement,' trumpeted the newspaper this time. As for Henry Fisher, he didn't play many matches for the First Team. He signed on until early 1927, when his name was struck off the register. In 1939 he was living in Upholland Road, Billinge and was an Engineer and Clerk of Works. He died in Hindley Green in January 1964, aged 68. |
