 HERITAGE NO : Joe Gaskell was a full back or forward who was captain of the St Marys College Twickenham Rugby Union team. He was the son of the well known Joseph Gaskell licensee of the Springfield Hotel, Thatto Heath, St Helens. He was 6feet tall and weighed fourteen stones. He scored 87 points for his college team, chiefly from kicks. The St Helens Reporter commented in July 1929 that he was a strong young player who had good prospects as he possessed strength and intelligence. Dave Dooley |
