 HERITAGE NO : 415 This versatile back played over 50 matches for the Saints in the early to mid 1930s. He made a very impressive start with the Saints and in only his second match he scored two tries and kicked three goals as a part of a 28 points to nil victory over Bradford Northern. Initially Charlie was a stand off but graduated to the centre and scrum half berths later in his career. He scored a total of 14 tries and kicked 24 goals in a period when the great Saints Championship team was breaking up due to financial pressures. The talented back returned to the Saints for a one-off appearance against Dewsbury in January 1942. In 1921 Charlie lived in Charles Street, St. Helens with his parents and sister Maggie. His father, also named Charles was a glass cutter and diamond setter at Pilkington Bros. We believe Charlie was still in Charles Street in 1939. Charlie died in St Helens in May 1987, aged 75.
