Ned Higgins was a second row forward who, according to the Rugby League signing-on Registers, lived in Oxford Street in Widnes. He played against the visiting Australians in 1921-22 and made his Saints debut earlier in the season in the rather one-sided 3-38 loss to Huddersfield in a league match at Fartown. Overall, Edward played 39 matches for the club and scored a try. His last match was at home in the league against Swinton, when the Saints managed to pull off a creditable 6-5 victory. Ned was a Timber Merchant's Labourer by trade. In 1939 he was living in Sinclair Avenue, Widnes. Ned died in Widnes in June 1950, aged 54.

Ned moved to the Saints from Widnes in 1921after playing only a few times for the Widnes first team. His brother, Tommy, was a stalwart for Widnes before moving to St Helens Recs.
