Biography of John Holland



HERITAGE NO : 253
John Holland played his only official game for the first team in the home league defeat to local rivals St Helens Recs by 24 points to 3. He played second row forward in this match. John however played for the Saints for 36 matches during World War One scoring four tries. Indeed he played for the first time in 1916 in a home victory over Runcorn. John worked variously as a Glass worker and as a Gas Service Pipe Layer. In 1939 he was living in Grafton Street, St Helens. He died in his hometown in March 1956 at the age of 61.
