Biography of Ron Jaundrill |
---|
HERITAGE NO : 752 Ron played his only game for the first team in the league defeat to Widnes by 25 points to 16 on 16 August 1958. He played blind side prop forward alongside hooker Tom McKinney and Ab Terry in this match. A former Blackbrook junior, his rugby career was temporarily interrupted by National Service, in December 1957, but after initially joining the Royal Corps of Signals, he was released as medically unfit, because of flat feet. He was considered to be a good enough prospect to eventually get a first team slot, but it was not to be. Ron later emigrated to Australia and signed for Dapto RLFC in the Illawarra Rugby League competition. Ron helped the club to their inaugural Premiership success in 1966. It is a famous old club, whose former players include the likes of Peter Dimond, Ted Goodwin, Paul McGregor and Allan Fitzgibbon, amongst other luminaries of the Australian game.
