Ossie Jones was born in Cadaxton, Wales and played for Neath, Surbiton and Surrey before signing for the Saints in August 1935. He made his debut in the 2-9 loss to Widnes on the opening day of the campaign at right centre, with Peter Smith outside him. It was a successful first season for the classy Welsh threequarter, with 32 appearances to his name, together with 5 tries and 10 goals. He played in the centre with another Welsh signing, Izzy Davies.

Ossie became more of a utility back in 1936-37 and scored 6 tries and 14 goals in his 25 appearances in the First Team. His last match for the club was against Bramley in September 1937, when he played right centre, with Harold Forsyth outside him. From that point, he goes off the radar somewhat. He was obviously a capable player, capable of scoring tries and covering several positions in the threequarter line effectively, as his 61 appearances, 11 tries and 24 goals reveals.

He was a Coal Miner and in 1939 he had returned to South Wales and was living in Lloyd's Terrace, Neath. He died in that town in June 1997, aged 86. If anyone has any further information about this player, we would be delighted to hear from you.
