Biography of Richard Little |
---|
HERITAGE NO : 47 Richard Henry Little was born in Belfast,Ireland and played 3 matches for the Saints between December 1896 and February 1897. His debut was on Boxing Day 1896 against Widnes when both teams thrashed out a scoreless draw, probably not the best Christmas present the crowd ever received. Little was a forceful forward for the Saints. His son, also called Richard, was on the books of the Saints in the 1930s but did not manage a first team appearance. We believe that Richard came to St.Helens in the late 1880s, probably accompanied by his younger brother Freddie who soon established himself as a blistering half back fir the Saints. In the 1901 Census he was living in Pocket Nook at the splendidly named Legs of Man public house. Richard married a widow Margaret Hunter and they proceeded to have four children. He worked as a labourer in a glassworks. Richard died in April 1933 aged 59. Dave Dooley |
