Peter Molyneux was a strong-running second-row forward who played for the Saints around the end of the First World War and represented Lancashire. Peter was formerly a member of the St.Helens Rovers junior team, which produced several notable players such as Johnny Greenall, Peter Corns and Bill Mulvanney, who were all signed by local rivals the Recs! After just over two years in the Saints First Team he was a transfer target for Wigan where he made 30 appearances in the 1921-22 season. Apparently, he re-joined the Saints, making his final appearance for the Knowsley Road club in a 2-3 defeat at Wakefield Trinity on 18th October 1924. Peter worked variously as a Glass Blower and as an Abbatoir Attendant.

His death was announced in the St.Helens Reporter of 26th March 1954 as follows: "Another sad loss to the band of old Saints players was occasioned by the death on Monday (22 March) of Mr.Peter Molyneux aged 62 years of 29, Queensway, Moss Bank. As well as having a strong sporting relationship, Mr.Molyneux was an ardent worker for the Moss Bank Labour Party and six Club Committee members served as bearers at his funeral on Wednesday. A tribute to Mr. Molyneux's work in local politics was paid by councillor T.Wilcock at the turf-cutting ceremony of a new £15,000 Labour Club in Queensway, yesterday morning. Mr.Wilcock said that it was planned to erect an inscribed plaque to Mr. Molyneux's memory within the new building."
