Biography of John Pickering |
---|
HERITAGE NO : 375 John Pickering by Alex Service A right wing threequarter from South John Street, Thatto Heath, he signed for the club on 19th March 1927 and made his one and only appearance for the First Team on the right wing at Halifax on 23rd March 1929. His centre partner was Billy Mercer, but unfortunately the Saints lost the match 8-19. It is presumed that he was a regular member of the A Team. Yet opportunities must have been limited at Knowsley Road in those days with wingers like Alf Ellaby and George Cotton. In 1939 John was working as a Bread and Confectionery Salesman and living in Traverse Street, St Helens. He died in St Helens in September 1975, aged 73. If anyone has any further information about this particular player, we would like to hear from them. |
