|James Skeath by Alex Service |
Signed originally on 4th September 1919, James made his First Team debut in the second row at home to Swinton on 13th December 1919 in a creditable 12-7 victory. He was 36 years old on debut.St. Helens-born and according to the Rugby League Registers, living in Morgan Street, James made the last of his seven appearances for the club against Huddersfield at Fartown, in a 3-38 reversal. He played in the front row that afternoon.
James was in the Royal Engineers during World War One which probably robbed him of peak rugby playing years. He worked as an engine fitter and in 1939 he was still living in his 1911 abode in Pocket Nook Street, St Helens. We believe that he died in December 1954, aged 71. His death was registered in Prescot. If anyone has any information or images of this player, please get in touch with us.
