Biography of Friend Taylor *

Friend Taylor was a guest from Oldham who played for the Saints in the away league defeat by Oldham by 8 points to 5 on the 21st of January 1942. In a splendid effort he played on the right wing and scored all Saints points with a try and goal. Friend made 27 appearances for the Roughyeds during the war years, although he was a Halifax player for the majority of his professional career, making 144 appearances for them. In 1939 Friend was living in Carlton Avenue, Oldham and employed as an Aircraft Iron and Steel Sheet Metal Worker. He died in Oldham in June 1989, aged 74. Thanks to the Oldham Heritage Trust for the use of the image of Friend.
