Biography of Shaun Magennis

Shaun was a signing from Blackbrook who waited for an opportunity to demonstrate his prowess in the first team in 2009. He was a back row forward who shone in the Reserves team that year. His progress was dogged by injury but seemed to regain full fitness by the summer of 2010. He made his first team debut as substitute in the narrow away league defeat at Hull FC in June 2010. In his next match against Harlequins RL at Knowsley Road, Shaun backed up excellently to notch his first try for the club. One week later Shaun backed up superbly to score a brace of tries in the away league demolition of Wakefield.

The 2010 season finished with an empty trophy cabinet at the Saints but the side creditably made it to the Challenge Cup Semi Final and a fifth successive Grand Final.

The 2011 season was a real roller coaster for all the team. Not only had the club got to contend with playing all their home matches at Widnes, following the sale of Knowsley Road, but a series of injuries threatened to derail the quest for silverware. The season proved to be a landmark one for Shaun as he featured in the majority of first team matches with four starts and 15 substitute appearances for the Saints. His strong displays in attack and defence made him a regular selection for coach Royce Simmons.

In 2012 Shaun suffered a serious injury which curtailed a promising career.
