Biography of Tom Armstrong



HERITAGE NO : 1174
This well built speedy winger or centre made his debut for the first team in the first league match of the 2009 campaign against Warrington. He immediately made an impressive impact with a well taken try to help the Saints overcome their local rivals by 26 points to 14. Tom then played in the league games against Huddersfield and Hull KR before lining up for his fourth first team match in the away fixture against Celtic crusaders. In appalling conditions Tom Armstrong was the only name on the scoresheet as the Saints prevailed by 4 points to nil. Good field position saw the ball coming left through the hands of Long. Andrew Dixon took it on, went through the gap and fed Leon Pryce. Pryce could have gone himself, but he passed to Tom Armstrong and he was over in the left hand corner. In July Tom scored another try in the away victory over Harlequins.

In 2011 Tom was on a dual registration contract with Leigh Centurions. As a Leigh player he had the pleasure of scoring in the last minute to secure a Northern Rail Trophy victory for the Lobbygobblers over a disgruntled Halifax side.

The injury crisis at Saints however saw Tom return to the red vee and his finishing was in tune as he collected more tries to his try tally. At the end of the campaign, with no new contract on the table, Tom opted to return to full time education and join the Swinton Lions.
