MATCH REPORT

MATCH REPORT : Saints took an early third-minute lead as Carrie Roberts scored against her former club after collecting a Beth Stott pass from close range. Zoe Harris was unable to add the extras, 4-0. It didn’t take long for us to increase our lead. Saints had an overlap down their right-hand side which allowed Roberts to cross for her second try of the game. Harris was unable to convert, 8-0. Our third try came within the opening ten minutes. Amy Hardcastle got the ball down the left and cut inside before going over the top of an Army defender to score. Harris added the two, 14-0. Our fourth try of the afternoon came quickly after. We created another overlap down the right-hand side which allowed Naomi Williams to cross. Harris missed the extras, 18-0.Roberts had her hat-trick by the 15th minute. Once again Saints had an overlap down their right edge and made the most of it. Harris missed the conversion, 22-0. Saints’ sixth try came around the half-hour mark as Paige Travis was put through a gap to score. Harris added the conversion, 28-0. It didn’t take long for Travis to make it a brace as once again she was put through a hole in the Army defence to score. Harris converted, 34-0. Two more Saints tries followed to end the half. A high kick wasn’t dealt with by the visitors which allowed Roberts to catch the ball one-handed and offload to Tara Jones who sprinted away to score underneath the sticks. Harris converted, 40-0. Our ninth and final try of the first half came in the 38th minute. Leah Burke had a run at the line and was taken to ground but wasn’t wrapped up, and managed to score as she crawled to the line. Harris converted to give us a 46-0 lead at the break!

The Saints momentum carried over into the second half. Hardcastle made a great break downfield, she then passed the ball on her inside to Travis who crossed for her hat-trick. Harris converted, 52-0. Roberts had her fourth try of the afternoon five minutes later as she ran well onto a pass from Jones close to the Army line. Harris converted, 58-0. Danielle Bush then came our seventh try scorer of the afternoon as Saints threw the ball through the hands from right to left which allowed Bush to stroll over in the left corner. Harris converted, 64-0. Williams then grabbed her second of the game after collecting a pass from Harris near the Army line and she crashed over. Harris converted, 70-0.Our fourteenth try of the afternoon came in the 65th minute, as Saints once again created an overlap which allowed Hardcastle to score her second try of the game. Harris missed the kick, 74-0. Katie Mottershead then grabbed her second try in as many weeks, as she pinched one from dummy half ten minutes from time. Harris’ kick hit the post, 78-0. Harris then crowned a good individual performance with two tries of her own. Firstly, she made a big break downfield before scoring in the right corner. She was unable to convert her own try, 82-0. Then just before the hooter sounded, she made another break downfield before stepping past several Army defenders to score a great solo try. She was able to convert her try with the final kick of the game, as Saints won the second game of the Challenge Cup Group Stage 88-0 against the British Army on Sunday afternoon!
