MATCH REPORT


MATCH REPORT : Saints took a fifth minute lead in Yorkshire. Faye Gaskin collected the ball, threw a dummy before spotting a gap and breaking through to score to the left of the sticks. She converted her own try, 0-6 Saints led. Seven minutes later, Saints had a second try. Erin Stott claimed a Featherstone kick on the last and raced the length of the field to score underneath the sticks. Gaskin added the extras, 0-12. Saints then made it three tries in the opening fifteen minutes. Zoe Harris put Chantelle Crowl through a gap, she found Vicky Whitfield in support who scored under the sticks. Gaskin converted, 0-18. ry number four came just before the half-hour mark. Saints moved it left, Jodie Cunningham stepped back inside on her right foot and burrowed her way over to score from close range. Gaskin again added the extras, 0-24.

Saints’ fifth try came on the half-hour mark. Saints broke again down the left edge. On the last it was moved central and Cunningham put Darcy Stott over down the middle. Gaskin added the extras, 0-30. Try number six came soon after. Saints went right, Beri Salihi threw a cut-out pass to Phoebe Hook, who raced away down the right wing to score. Gaskin converted, 0-36. There was still time for one more first half try for the visitors. Saints moved it right and Hook finished acrobatically in the corner to score. Gaskin was unable to convert, 0-40 Saints led at the break.

Three minutes into the second forty, Saints have another. The ball was moved left, Cunningham found Salihi who scored from close range. Gaskin missed the kick, 0-44. Another quickly followed. Saints again moved the ball left, Salihi found Luci McColm, she found Leah Burke who raced down the wing to score in the corner. Gaskin was unable to convert, 0-48. Saints’ tenth try of the afternoon came after 54 minutes. Saints went left, Cunningham found Meg Williams who put the ball down from close range to score. Gaskin couldn’t convert, 0-52.

Featherstone were able to grab a consolation try. Saints made an error deep inside their own half, Featherstone moved it right and Natalie Carr scored in the corner. The conversion was missed, 4-52. The final try of the game came with ten minutes to go. Saints went left and Burke did well to fend off some tackles before rolling over in the corner. Gaskin converted, 4-58. With four minutes to go, the hosts were reduced to twelve players, Mannion saw yellow after a scuffle in the middle of the field. That was the final action of the game, as Saints beat Featherstone 4-58 at a hot Millennium Stadium.
